- Can't turn click off!
Ok - I got myself an MMT-8.
The only thing is that the metronome click constantly sounds - in record or playback; part OR song - I just can't get rid of it.
I've gone to the "Click" menu (click button) and switched "Record Click" to "Off" but to no avail.
My ROM version is (temporarily) 1.08.
Anyone have any knowledge of this or a way I can stop it? (JonG, Sat 3 May 20:00, Reply)
You have to switch the PLAY click to off, not the record click. Hold down the click button and use the PAGE UP/DOWN buttons to display the PLAY click on/off option.

Oh - also, does anyone have any 1.11 ROMs for sale? (JonG, Sun 4 May 01:14, Reply)
- mmt8 memory upgrade
this is a very usefull piece of information. I intend to do this job for a freind. However I am bemused by the instruction not to use a soldering iron of more than 15watt. I would compare this to underamplifying. I use a 45watt temp controlled iron and I believe that you would be more likely to dammage the board trying to use a 15watt which would struggle to reach a high enough temperature quickly so that you would find yourself holding it onto the circuit for a long time. This is what lifts tracks. I personally wouldnt recommend anything less than 25watt, and even that could be iffy. The correct type of bit is also very important. The best advice is, if you are not experienced with soldering, practice first on something which dosent matter. (tom long, Sat 12 Apr 11:40, Reply)
- Anyone selling one?
Hi, I'm after an MMT-8 - black or gray - preferably with working buttons, and in the UK or prepared to ship it here...
Anyone got one for sale at the moment? (JonG, Wed 2 Apr 23:12, Reply)
- MMT-8 for sale...
I just put my (near) Mint MMT8 - the black on on eBay. I'm all ready having sellers remorse (is there such a thing) but it's gotta go.

- Quantize?
Hi
can you quantize post recording or during recording? And does it have swing or anything like that? (HG, Thu 14 Feb 06:59, Reply)
You can only quantize post recording. It has no swing function, but you can sat a delay on each individual track by a certain amount compared to the others, so this may create a sort of swing feel.

- Internal construction of song data
Hi guys,
Emailed you about this question, but thought I could ask here too. I was wondering, does the MMT8 define itself in blocks of 16th notes, or is it open to MIDI file data such as time signature changes? I work in various time signatures, and am not adept enough at Max/MSP yet to develop my own software version of something as simple as an MMT8!
In other words, will I always have to work in parts of multiples of 16, or will I be able to upload a part of a different duration? I'm guessing if it isn't locked to a 16 step cycle (like the pattern sequencer on a 303 or whatnot), then the information will just be a stream of notes, with defined beginning and end points?
Also, if I input a General MIDI song file into the MMT8, would it still output time signature changes via MIDI for other connected hardware, even if it did not 'recognise' them itself?
Thanks a lot

Hi Steve, the mmt8 isn't locked to a time signature, meaning that it has no pre-record quanitise function. It's resolution is 1/96th of a beat, though, if that means anything - which suits either 3/4 or 4/4 based time signatures. When you record with it, it just counts beats - you dont set a pattern to record 4/4 time or 3/4 time etc. You just start recording to the click track and YOU decide how to interpret the beat click ie. 3/4 or 4/4 etc. When you finish recording, you can post-quantise it with a variety of menu choices eg 1/16 notes, 12th notes etc.

Thanks a lot! That's very helpful to know. Has both advantages and disadvantages for my plans, so might be worth grabbing one anyway... (Steve, Mon 21 Jan 00:50, Reply)
An interesting thing about it, in relation to what I just mentioned, is that you can have different time signatures running on different tracks on the same song. On track one you might have a beat recorded in 4/4 time. On track 2 you can have a beat recorded in 3/4 time, and have them both running together at the same time! Cheers, Graham (Graham, Tue 22 Jan 01:30, Reply)
It certainly opens up many possibilities; although it is not useful for the function I had in mind (outputting time signature data to control the phrasing of other rhythm machines), it does allow for a lot of flexibility for other uses, such as the one you mentioned above, but also of working with multiples of multiples of time signatures, within one track, then a second, and so on. This is why I'm till going to try and get my hands on one... (Steve, Wed 13 Feb 23:33, Reply)
- problem with mmt8
Hi.I just purchased a mmt8 on ebay and when i turned it on for the first time, all the leds except "track1" and "track2" are lit,and the display is lit as well but it displays nothing.
Ive searched trough the forum, and ive read that its a common problem, so i did what is posted somewhere, i replugged the wires and even umounted the everything (but i didnt pulled off the ICs).The only thing ive got doing this is that now "track1" and "track2" lights also. What can i do?!any ideas? Check to see whether the ebay seller gave you the correct power adapter - it must be a 9V or 10V AC, not 9V DC. If you plug a DC 9V plug pack into it instead of the AC 9V adapter its supposed to have, you will get the same symptoms. I see so many ebay sellers selling the mmt8 without power supplies. This must be because the AC 9V power supplies are uncommon and expensive, and they pinch them off mmt8's to run their Line6 or other alesis gear when their power supply dies. They then just replace the mmt8's one with a common 9V DC adapter and hope no one notices... If that's not the problem, it's possible that the power regulator in the mmt8 needs replacing.

- Maybe?
I've realised about a detail that is maybe the cause.I bought the item from UK and i live in spain.Te mmt8 comes with the original alesis 9V AC power suply from UK, so i bought a spanish-uk power adapter. Is maybe this issue related to my problem? (Alberto J, Sat 19 Jan 01:12, Reply)
- thanks
thank you very much, ill check this (Alberto J, Sat 19 Jan 01:06, Reply)
It's possible that this is the cause, if the spanish adapter voltage is different to the UK voltage. Best to get the adapter suited to the country's voltage you're in at the time.

- wont save...?
I've just recently acquired a MMT8 via Ebay, and it works fine except for the fact that it doesn't save. If I record a part and rename it and all that jazz, it will still be there if I open a new part or turn the MMT8 off for a second and then switch it back on, but if it stays off for a long period of time like overnight, I lose all my work. As you could assume, that's pretty annoying. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, but I am sort of new to this whole MIDI /sequencer world. The troubleshooting section of the manual says something about bad connections, how would I fix this?
thanks! (Jacob, Thu 17 Jan 01:36, Reply)
This means that the backup battery for the memory is dead. The replacement batteries are easy to get and replace yourself, but they are soldered in place, so you need to be able to use a soldering iron if you want to do it yourself. If you can't, find a friend who can. At the last resort, buy the new battery and take it and the mmt8 to any electronics repair place and they will put it in for you. The battery is a 3.6v non-rechargeable lithium computer backup battery, with leads. Here is a link to an example: ---------- http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&productId=33371&pa=33371PS ------------
You should be able to also get them at radio shack or maybe a computer parts store. To install it yourself, just snip the legs of the old battery and remove it, and just solder the new battery to the legs where the old one was. Easy! Make sure the battery is the correct way around - look at the old one before removing it and mark the + terminal leg on the circuit board with a marker so you dont get confused.
