Freeloader

Freeloader is a shareware utility, supplied by Alesis, that allows you to play MIDI (.mid) and sysex (.syx) files into MIDI devices. Download Freeloader here. Versions are available for the PC and Mac, but the Mac version does not receive (record) sysex from devices.

The following assumes you have downloaded and installed the PC version of Freeloader.

PC version 1.0

Start Freeloader. You should see a window similar to the Figure 1 below:

Open the Freeloader Devices window (Figure 2) by clicking on "Devices" in the main menu. Make sure that the correct MIDI input and output ports (INPUT PORT and OUTPUT PORT, respectively) for your setup are selected. In this instance, we are using input port 1 and output port 1 on the MIDI Express XT. (You can ignore the WAVE OUTPUT setting.)
